The $79 IKEA Play Kitchen- My Girls New Favorite Toy

As many of you know, we have been avoiding buying new toys and minimizing the ones that we currently own. So it probably sounds crazy that we bought something as large as a play kitchen but I’m so glad we did. We have an old play kitchen in the basement. It’s huge and obnoxiously colored. Octavia likes to play in the living room because she hates being alone. I couldn’t deal with seeing that old kitchen all day in our common area.

We took an impromptu trip to IKEA recently. We were going to a new park and got a flat tire. It turned into a five-hour fiasco. The park was closing when we finally got there. IKEA was a few minutes away so off we went on an unplanned adventure.

We were looking for ideas for storage and decorations for our future RV. We actually found many ideas. We unexpectedly found out that we really needed a play kitchen. Octavia was completely obsessed with every play kitchen that we came across. It was something that we had been considering for quite some time.

I was shocked to find that IKEA’s play kitchens are only $79! That sealed the deal. I decided to buy a small set of cooking utensils and a set of pots and pans. The 5-piece set of cooking utensils were $5. The 5-piece set of pots and pans were $10. We had a few Melissa and Doug sets already.

I spent the next day putting it together. It took about 4 hours with the kids underfoot. I definitely needed a helper during a few spots. It’s so cute! I love the design. It’s so minimal and unassuming. It’s been in my living room for the last few weeks and I’m very happy with it. Isabella (9) and Octavia (3) play with it every single day. I found a basic storage box at Target to place next to it for fake food and kitchen items. It’s so easy to clean everything up. This was a great purchase!
