Izzy’s in Florence, KY

I can’t help it!  I just love a good sandwich! I also adore the pickles at Izzy’s.  They bring this bowl of free pickle goodness to your table and everything is awesome from that moment on.  We devoured our pickle appetizer while waiting on our sandwiches. Izzy’s is known for their pickles, Reubens, and potato pancakes.

On this particular day, the hubby ordered a Reuben and I got the corn beef and Swiss.  They also make these perfect potato pancakes.  They are perfectly fried heaven.  I could easily go to Izzy’s and only eat them.  You can order them separately.  This restaurant is extremely family friendly.  They do offer kid’s meals that are similar to the adult food but the potatoes are different.  Isabella got the corn beef sandwich.  I could order a potato pancake for Isabella for lunch instead.  They are big and she loved them so much she put a pretty good dent in mine and her Dad’s.

We visited the location on Mall road in Florence, KY. The parking situation at this particular location sucks. It is in the same building as a Starbucks and shares a parking lot with a small strip-mall. If you go here at midday, you may have to circle the lot to find a parking spot.  It is worth the time spent finding parking. Very affordable at under $10 per person.

Come hungry and Enjoy!

Spring at Florence Nature Park – Florence, KY

Florence Nature Park in Florence, KY is a small park. It was spring and all the flowers were just beginning to bloom during our visit. The kids had a blast chasing butterflies. We watched squirrels, smelled flowers, and even followed a honey bee from a short distance. Isabella kept asking, “Is he eating, Mommy? Does he eat flowers?” Ivy was taken with the daffodils that were in full bloom.

If you happen to be in Florence, KY during Spring or Summer, I highly suggest this park as a good place to have a picnic, spend a little time with nature, and perhaps play frisbee or ball in the large grassy areas.

Boone County Arboretum – Union, KY

Looking for a free day of fun in northern Kentucky?  I suggest the Boone County Arboretum.  The kids had a blast learning about the different plants and we all got a little exercise.  They had maps at the beginning that tell where each plant is located.  We also watched the butterflies.  Isabella was in heaven! She adores butterflies.  There were also dragonflies.  Ivy likes all bugs, plants, and animals.  She is a bit of a nature princess.

There were multiple bamboo clumps.  It was a great photo-op!  The girls got a kick out of it!  There is also a kid garden with places to walk through tunnels of ivy and a full playground right next to it.  It is always nice to spend a day outdoors, running in the grass, taking in the beauty, and smelling the flowers. This place is perfect for a blanket picnic!

P.S. With all the flowers in bloom, this place is a Mecca for bees! Remember if you leave them alone, they’ll leave you alone. If somebody in your party is allergic to them, please be prepared.

Chopsticks at Noodles and Company -Florence, KY

I took the girls out yesterday for a girl day.  We had vegetarian Japanese pan noodles for lunch at Noodles and Company in Florence, KY.  It was Isabella’s first time using chopsticks and she did amazingly well with a chopstick buddy. I’m proud that she tried so hard.  She found it so amusing.  This is such a cute little restaurant!  It’s family friendly and highly affordable.

Abuelo’s Mexican Resturant – Crestview Hills, KY

I took my hubby out for a special dinner at Abuelo’s Mexican restaurant. He is a HUGE mexican food fan! This place is amazing! You get free chips and salsa for a starter. We ordered additional dips. He ordered a HUGE meal! Crazy man! I got a steak. I know, I know…but it looked great…and it was! I did get some mexican potatoes with it. Isabella got a quesadilla and Ivy got enchiladas with sour cream sauce. The girls both got rice and beans for sides.

Look at all the food left on that plate. He was defeated by “The Monterey.”
