July 2020 Goals

July 2020 Goals

I’m a little late to the game with this goal post but I wanted to take a chance to collect my very scattered thoughts and also to connect with you. Things have been pure madness around here while we prepare for our upcoming adventure. I can’t wait to be blogging/vlogging about our daily explorations but first, we have to put our lives in order. It has not been easy to make such a huge change and while I’m happy that we decided to take some extra time to get everything done, I do feel us losing momentum. You can only go at full speed for so long before you start to lose it.

We took some breaks recently, one for medical reasons and one for the psychological good of our entire family. We were feeling a little burnt out by the process so we spent a few days at the zoo, explored nearby parks, spent some extra time with our favorite people, and relaxed just a little. We slept in and talked more. I spent my mornings lingering over coffee and reading. I know it sounds crazy to take any amount of time off at this point but we knew we needed it. We needed to recharge our batteries before the big final push. It was all becoming too much. We were all on the edge of a breakdown. I’m happy to report that we feel like ourselves again. We are trying to get things done without running ourselves into the ground right now.

July 2020 Goals

  • Scan Old Photos/Art
  • Finish the Kitchen Cabinets
  • Declutter, Declutter, Declutter

Scan Old Photos/Art

I have been scanning old photos and the kid’s art before we store anything. We were really worried that things would get messed up while in storage. I really underestimated the amount of time this would take. On the upside, it’s pretty relaxed work. I can easily spend an hour or an entire day taking apart old photo albums and scanning in their content. Then I pack the good original photos into an acid-free photo storage box. I throw away the ones that would be deleted these days and anything damaged. I haven’t made it very far yet but it already takes up much less space. Trying to condense as much as possible so we can get a smaller storage unit.

Finish the Kitchen Cabinets

The kitchen cabinets are mostly done but we have a few things left to finish up. We hope to have them completed by the end of the month so we can order countertops and put up backsplash tile. In a perfect world, we will get these done and finish some other home projects but this is the number one priority.

Declutter

We are continuing to minimize at every turn. There is so much stuff that we need to get rid of. We have been setting things aside for a yard sale in our spare bedroom. That room is now completely full. It’s crazy the amount of stuff that we didn’t remotely need! The sad part is that we are nowhere close to being done. Every time we finish decluttering one area and feel that little zing of joy, we find the next area that needs to be addressed. We really didn’t realize how much stuff we had accumulated over the years. While we continue to weed out the things we don’t really need, we also need to start getting rid of things.

We are shifting our main focus to clearing out the things set aside in the spare bedroom now. We will be listing things for sale online, having garage/yard sales, donating items, taking things to second-hand stores, and brainstorming all the ways that we can clear things out. We will continue to work on home projects to use up some materials. It’s all about cleaning out the house for the next month or two.

There are a million other things that we need to do but these are the main goals that we are focusing on at this time. What are you working on this month? Do you feel like 2020 has completely derailed all of your goals?
