Taco Luchador Taqueria – Louisville, Kentucky

During our staycation, we spent a lovely day in Louisville, Kentucky. After a long day at the Louisville Zoo, we were hungry and looking for a casual place nearby to have dinner. I had heard about Taco Luchador and decided to see how far away it was. It turned out that it was pretty close to where we were. We had difficulty finding parking when we got there. We finally found a spot on a nearby street after circling the block. The outside of the restaurant is really brightly colored and cute. We chose to sit inside. The place has a neat vibe. It is in an old house. The wood floors are warped in places. The seating area is small and cozy. We ordered at the counter and took our seats.

We got an order of guacamole and chips to start. The guacamole was delicious. It was one of our favorite things we ordered. Michael got an al pastor taco (marinated pork, onions, pineapple, cilantro) and an Asada taco (grilled sirloin, grilled onions, grilled poblano, queso fresco, crema, cilantro). Ivy got a mole taco (mole braised chicken, roasted corn-poblano, cotija cheese, mole). Isabella got a custom taco. She had an al pastor taco without pineapple and onion, and she added cheese and crema. Octavia got a veggie taco (corn and roasted poblano, rajas, black beans, sweet plantains, guacamole, crema, queso fresco). I went with a carnitas taco (crispy pork, queso fresco, pickled onions, crema, tomatillo salsa, guacamole) but held the pickled onions.

The wait for our food was very short. We were all pleased with our choices except Octavia didn’t like the plantain in hers. We just took it off and it was fine. Octavia also enjoyed chewing on the lime that came with her taco. The girl just loves citrus fruit.

We also decided to share an order of mole fries. They were really pretty. We had never eaten mole fries before. Turned out that none of us loved them. They were ok but not nearly as amazing as they look. It was fun to try something new. Octavia enjoyed getting to eat fries but didn’t enjoy the toppings.

We would gladly eat here again. Next time, I will get a double order of chips and guacamole and skip the mole fries.
