Big News! We’ve Set a Departure Date!

Big News! We’ve Set a Departure Date!

We have big news that I couldn’t wait to share with you! We have set an official departure date! Our goal has been to leave in the fall of 2020 but we hadn’t set an actual date until now. Now you might be asking yourself why it was so important that I post this today?

It’s because our date is exactly one year from today!

On 09/14/20, we will depart for the trip of a lifetime!

We plan to leave Cincinnati, heading west. We have a rough idea of where we are going and when we would like to get there. We have agreed that no matter what, whether we are completely ready or not, we are leaving on that day. We have left ourselves one very serious out, however. If for some reason our house doesn’t sell, we will have to wait until it does. We simply can’t make this new lifestyle work with a mortgage payment.

We couldn’t be more excited but we’re also a little nervous. There’s a lot to work out and a million loose ends that have to be wrapped up before we leave but I’m so happy to have such a big decision made. I’ll fill you in on all of the details as they happen over the next year.

We would love to have you along for the journey, both prior and after leaving. Preparing for long term travel with three kids will be quite an adventure. We will be sharing everything leading up to our trip including our travel plans, minimizing our belongings, where we will store the items we don’t want to part with, buying our towing vehicle, buying our travel trailer, updating/decorating our travel trailer, preparing our house to be sold, preparing our children for life on the road, getting passports, setting up a capsule wardrobe for each of us, getting our medical and dental care in order, homeschooling, insurance (all the different insurance), choosing tech for the road, saving money for our trip, veterinary care for our dog, getting all the paperwork in order, etc, etc, etc.

We plan to share everything we possibly can to help other families that would like to do the same. When we first started researching this, we found loads of happy smiling people on their trips but very little about preparing for long term travel with kids. If you ever have any questions, please leave them in the comments and we will respond. They may even inspire us to write about that subject so that we can help even more people!

Happy Travels!

Love,

Crystal & Mike

  1. Sounds like a big step but exciting nonetheless. I wish you all the best as you embark on a new chapter in your lives. I’m sure everything will work out as it should to make the process go smoothly. Even if there is a few bumps in the road. Remain positive and keep pushing. Best of luck

  2. That’s so exciting that you have set your departure date. While a year is a long time, I know it will go by quickly and I’m sure it will be quite hectic getting everything done. I look forward to seeing your updates along the way as you get closer to this date. Fingers crossed your house sells by then.

    1. A year is both a long and short amount of time. We’re so excited but setting a date made our pre-travel to do list very real.

  3. Sounds exciting and yes there will be much to organize but I don’t think you will regret this decision. No point in leaving it until you are too old and then regretting not having gone. We took our 2 and 4 year old kids on a 6 month trip in a campervan around Australia. It was the trip of a lifetime. Some friends said we were mad to do it. But older friends encouraged us and said it was a great adventure.

    1. My Dad was the best. He said “I’m going to try everything to talk you out of this because I will miss you so much. Don’t let me talk you out of it. You need to do this or you’ll always wonder what if.”
Australia is on our list but we want to see our country & Canada first, mostly because it will be easier with our dog.

  4. Best of luck and God bless y’all in your endeavor! We RV’d full time under different circumstances but let me know if we can help! It sounds like you know more about it than we did after 10 months on the road! lol 😂
It’ll be the adventure of a lifetime!
