First Time Seeing Lake Erie at Kenneth J Sims Park

On one of our trips to look at a suburban, we ended up near Cleveland, Ohio. The girls had never seen Lake Erie before. Ivy and Isabella have seen Lake Michigan in Chicago but Isabella doesn’t remember it. She was really young. I told her the Great Lakes are so big that they look like the ocean. I don’t think she believed me until she got there.

The Suburban looked great at first but it turned out to have issues that would be costly to repair. We were all a little sad and fell back on our go-to option of finding a park nearby. We ended up at Kenneth J Sims Park. It sits right on the lake.

It was a chilly, windy day. Not at all ideal for going to a park on Lake Erie but we were there and we weren’t going to pass up the opportunity. It was much colder than it was at home so we weren’t super prepared. The only one who was dressed appropriately was Michael. He has a way of always layering correctly. Octavia had a jacket in the car. Michael was kind enough to give his jacket to Isabella.

We parked and walked down to the pier. It never ceases to amaze me how many beautiful places there are! It’s the simple things I enjoy the most. Water, trees, rocks, and overviews are some of my favorite things. This little park was mostly empty except for birds and huge squirrels running around the trees.

We always make the best of everything if we can. We know that traveling with our kids will have many moments that don’t go as planned. Life on the road can really test your patience. I feel like the preparation phase of our trip is just preparing us for that as well.
