The Perfect Family Day Trip in Cincinnati at Sharon Woods Park in Sharonville, OH

We spent a day with friends at Sharon Woods Park a few weeks ago. We loved it so much that we went back again. This is such a nice park and admission is included in the Hamilton County Great Parks pass.

We started our day with friends at the Nature Center. There are snakes, turtles, and fish to see. There is a fossil area on one side with fossils found in the area. At the back, there is a nature viewing area with books, chairs, and activities. One of the days we were there, a typewriter was on the desk for the kids to try out. Isabella found this really neat.

Next, we went to the playground beside the visitor center/nature center. It’s a decent playground. There’s a wood playhouse next to the playground and swings in a nearby open grassy area. The little girls played here for a while before we moved on to the creek that runs near it. The kids took off their shoes and wandered around in the water. My friend and I sat on some rocks to chat.

Once they had their fill of playing in the creek, we went to the other playground near the lake. This one has a splash pad and a small “creek” to play in. The snack bar was blissfully still open and we enjoyed some frozen sweets. Octavia brought a Cinderella Barbie doll. It has a plastic bodice that she has decided is a swimsuit. She took her “swimming” in the fake creek. She would throw her down it and then crawl after her. It made us laugh.

After playing in this area for ages, we walked along the lake. There were tons of ducks on the path. The lake had a lot of algae around the edges. There’s an area near the playground where you can rent a boat but we decided against that. We ended our day with another trip to the playground.

The second time we went, we made a point to do the trail in the top picture. We also looked at some of the other picnic areas and fields. We were hoping to visit Heritage Villiage while we were there but they were unfortunately closed. We are planning a trip to it soon and I’ll be sure to share it with all of you. The weather took a turn while we were at the playground and our visit was cut short. We made it back to the car just as the rain started.

This is a great park if you’re looking for something to do in the area!

    1. Yes! We love Cincinnati. I think people underestimate how cool this area is. We’ll be here for the next year until we leave for our trip next fall. We haven’t decided where we want to settle down when we’re done traveling. There’s no way to know where the world may take us but I know we will at least be coming back here to visit all the lovely people we have met here 🙂 It really is a nice city!
