September 2019 Goals

  • Save Money
  • Become More Comfortable with Homeschooling
  • Continue Home Improvement Projects
  • Continue Decluttering
  • No Spend Challenge
  • Create a Timeline of Things to Complete During Our Last Year Prior to Travel

We are trying to save all the money we can. We have begun the search for the perfect vehicle. We are putting whatever we can into a savings account until we find and buy that perfect (or more honestly, acceptable) one. We have a shortlist of non-negotiable items including no rust on the body, new enough for the latch system, room for our family including our beloved dog, and the towing capacity for the travel trailers we are interested in.

Once we find the right vehicle, we will begin the search for our travel trailer. We want a 26-30 foot trailer with bunk beds for the big girls and at least 1 slide so Jack will have more floor space. We are pretty open to the options available to us. Once we have our tow vehicle, we will know what our weight limitations are and go from there on choosing the right trailer.

We started our homeschooling journey this year. We have gotten past the beginning shock of it all. It still doesn’t feel completely real. We are just starting to find our groove. We want to feel more comfortable. I think it will take a few months or longer. We have found a relaxed schedule that’s working for us right now. The beauty of homeschooling is that we can do what works while it’s working and change things when it doesn’t.

We will be continuing our home improvement projects to get our house ready to sell next year and to enjoy our final year in our home. We want to finish everything we can before Thanksgiving.

We will likely be continuing to declutter until we finally move out of our home. We have been considering playing the minimalism game again. It was such a hit last time. We have stopped replacing things except for consumables and necessary items of clothing now. We are starting a no-spend challenge. We unanimously agreed on this about a week ago. With the realization that we are only a year from leaving, we discussed that we should attempt to not buy anything until we decorate the trailer travel unless we can’t live without it comfortably. I feel like we will naturally declutter clothing, toys, and household items this way. It will also help us to save a ton of money.

We do have a small entertainment budget still but we’re doing as many free/cheap things as possible. We have a ton of art, craft, and educational supplies that we are using while homeschooling. We have a couple of boxes of books in our basement that we saved to pass down. Isabella has been reading Ivy’s and my old books. Octavia is enjoying all of Isabella’s old ones.

One of the most time-consuming goals of this month is likely going to be putting together a timeline of all of the things that we need to accomplish before we head out. We are one year out and there is so very much left to do. On one hand, I think a year is a long time and we have plenty of time to get everything done. Then in the next moment, I’m panicking about how there’s only a year left and how I’m going to get everything done. I think by setting goal dates for each thing and setting up a timeline we can stay on track. It will allow us to not stress over every detail even though I know as parents we will anyway.

What are your goals for September?
