Stuffing Ourselves on Amazing Tacos at La Torta Loca – Florence, KY

Do you know those perfect dinners that are not only an awesome meal but also a great experience? That was our evening at La Torta Loca in Florence, Kentucky. The food and service were both outstanding! My husband came across a picture somebody had posted of their tacos and couldn’t wait to try this place.

Look at this cute little face!

We were so excited and this place smelled so good that we may have really over ordered! It was our first time and we just wanted to try everything. It helps that there’s 5 of us and we’re all big eaters. We picked out drinks from the coolers while waiting for our food. Octavia was getting antsy. The lady working the front (we later found out she is the owner) was very kind and brought her a few toys. She is a mom too and completely understood. The toys really helped!

We started off with a couple of appetizers. We got a container of guacamole and an order of their freshly made chips. The guac was chunky perfection! The Mexican style cheese sticks and dip were recommended and delicious. I would happily eat both of these again.

Next, our rediculous amount of food started to make its appearance. We told them that we didn’t care how it came out because we ordered so much stuff. We got 7 tacos in total: 3 chicken, 2 pork, and 2 beef. Micheal and Ivy ate the beef. Isabella and Ivy had the pork. Ivy, Isabella, Octavia, and I ate the chicken tacos. Octavia got a kids meal with a mini chicken torta which is a small sandwich. It came with fries.

We wanted to order a full-size Torta but were unsure of what to get. We asked for whichever was most popular. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. This thing is enormous! We all could share just this sandwich. There was so much going on in this thing. It was good but so weird and so messy. Michael was the only one with hands big enough to hold it. There were eggs, cheese, hot dogs, ham, a fried pork chop, chorizo, tomato, lettuce, and jalapenos. I think there was even more but we were so overwhelmed. We all took turns trying this thing. It ended up being Michael’s in the end. He ate a little over half of it which was impressive after appetizers and tacos.

I love empanadas so we got one of those too. I told you we ordered way too much! This thing was amazing. It tasted like really good pot roast. We all shared this once it cooled down enough to eat. It was so fresh.

When we were ordering we wanted to try some of the items we weren’t familiar with. I had never even heard of arepas. We figured we had already ordered half the menu why not get one of these too. We decided to get “La Reina Pepia.” It was described as chicken and avocado mix with house seasoning, cheese, and cream. It was comparable to a warm chicken salad sandwich with good bread. I was really on the fence with this one. We ended up taking it home and were told not to reheat it. Turned out that it was really good cold. I’m glad I took it home.

If you are in the Northern Kentucky area, go check this place out! It’s small so you may have to wait for a table but it’s worth it. Our favorite things here were the chicken and pork tacos, the guacamole and chips, and the empanada. We highly recommend those! It’s very easy to drive past this place and we missed it the first time.
