Surprise! We’re Officially Homeschoolers!

I know that you lovely readers have noticed my absence over the last month. We didn’t even do an August Goal post! I’ve been attempting to get my bearings because we made a huge choice. I have been studying homeschooling relentlessly to prepare myself for our trip. Little did I know that our nine-year-old has been watching me and reading a lot of the books I had on my end table. She is incredibly bright so I shouldn’t be surprised.

She brought up the idea of starting homeschooling this year a little over a month ago. We told her that we would support whatever she wanted to do. We thought that she would decide to return to school since she is very social. It has been our biggest concern with homeschooling and our future trip. She is very intelligent and driven so completing work wasn’t something that we were nearly as worried about.

She spent about three weeks thinking about it. She asked questions occasionally but mostly kept to herself about it. She asked me to sit down with her one day a couple weeks ago and asked me a massive amount of questions about homeschooling. It went on for more than an hour. Then she simply says, “OK, Thanks.” I filled my husband in after he got home from work.

She didn’t mention it for the rest of the night. She tossed and turned hard that night. The next morning she got out of bed and immediately told me that she had made her decision. She wanted to begin homeschooling now. So I found myself with two weeks to get my ducks in a row before school began. Thankfully, I knew all the laws because of my previous research and was able to quickly take care of the legal components.

The curriculum is taking a little longer but we have the basics in place for now.  It has consumed most of my time since she informed me of her choice. I apologize for my absence and will be back to our normal posting schedule now. Thank you all for your kind messages over the last couple of weeks! They meant more than you know.
